- Purpose: New Years Celebration
- Stops Along the Way: Buenos Aires, Colonia, Iguazu Falls, Mendoza, Uco Valley
- Description: Argentinian wine trip
- Group Profile: Couple
- Activity Level: Low to Moderate
- Resources: Argentina Planning Quick Facts & Itinerary Planning Template
- Stories: Argentine Asado on New Year’s Eve
- Itinerary Developed by: Village & Vine Travel
- Note: As you will read in my Observations I did very little to no research and planning for this trip. On reflection I deeply regret that we did not fly from Mendoza to Chile (just over the Andes Mountains) to tour the vineyards outside of Santiago. Two to three additional days added onto this itinerary would have allowed us to experience the food and wine of Chile. This was a mistake as it is unlikely that we will get back to South America.

Take the Buquebus High Speed Boat to Colonia, Uruguay The historic quarter of Colonia del Sacramento, founded in 1680, evokes old Lisbon with its Portuguese-influenced architecture and winding streets. The area, located in southwestern Uruguay on the Rio de la Plata, was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1995. Major sights include Iglesia Matriz, the country’s oldest church, the Municipal Museum and a 17th-century port jutting into the river. |
Recommended by the hotel. I’m so glad that we did this day trip to Uruguay. Colonia is a lovely village with beautiful architecture and cobblestone streets. Lunch at Charco was memorable for both food and view. |
