We’ve returned to The Great George in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (PEI) for Grand #3’s North American Scholarship Trip. I love this small, quaint hotel. The staff are warm, attentive and there is typically the smell of baked cookies as you enter the living area that serves as its lobby.
As we proceed to check in, Grand #2’s eyes light up at the aroma of baked goods and she immediately heads over to the sideboard to sample the prowess of the cookie maker. It more than meets with her approval as she turns and says, “These are good!” To enhance the cookie sampling she helps herself to a cup of hot tea, grateful to have arrived in Charlottetown.
Having shared a hotel room in Quebec City I thought we might be ready for a 2-bedroom suite so that we could spread out for a couple of days, roughly half way through our 7-day Eastern Canada trip. However, due to a change in our trip schedule I had failed to change the dates on our reservation and we had arrived a day early! The staff quickly scrambled to find rooms for us but it would require that Grand #2 and I stayed in a queen bedroom and her grandfather in a separate room for the one night.
Having dropped off our luggage in our respective rooms we met back in the cookie fragranced lobby before setting off for a lobster dinner at Water Prince Corner Shop a short walk from the hotel. We were seated at an outdoor table and watched as platters of lobster and bowls of PEI mussels passed our table. While weary from the trip from Quebec City to Charlottetown we couldn’t wait to sample the lobster as we reminisced about the seafood we had shared during a family trip to Maine.
After an extremely satisfying meal we headed back to the hotel, said goodnight to Big Daddy, and headed to our room. After preparing for bed and choosing sides, we climbed into and under the cover of darkness and the soft quietness of the village of Charlottetown where we shared those things that are deeply meaningful.
Mary Beth I have a passion for creating and experiencing unforgettable moments and sharing those with others. I hope that this story has helped you experience one of those moments.
